Hi all,
Have been building a WW 1 German A7V tank, basing it on No: 504 "Schnuck".
started with a HL P IV lower hull and road wheels, using T - 34 tracks all the top hull is scratch built. After a couple of attempts ended up cutting the lower hull in half and extended it by about 20mm and cut down the centre and narrowed about 10mm so the normal HL gear boxes can still fit in. Also dropped the gearboxes down to the hull floor level.

This thread will be mainly pics so ask if you have any questions.
Worked on the wheel covers and springs, the idea is that the P IV wheels go up and push the covers up etc...
Glued 2 pce 's styrene together so the main hull sides are one piece, makes it easier to cut out doors and mg holes etc... I'm making the Krupp style tank with 5 plates ea side and 2 on the front and back.

What a huge effort Graham - Guess I'm going to have to try to have the sound set do this beast justice.

Cheers
KG

There not many A7 builds out there but one by Dirty Harryx is an amazing build and I'm using as a reference and inspiration, not sure where he is from but its a great build, he used bulldozer tracks and rollers, scratched built everything.

using DH idea on the main cannon and a Tauch Panzer III barrel which i filed down in a bench drill, made it so i can remove the cannon from the hull. it will have servo recoil and HL traverse but no elevation.

Hi Kevin,
Yep it's been a huge effort lol, will post more pics soon, have the stug units in now for the cannon traverse and mg movements. Now it's ready for the ASP to be installed :D :D
I'm sure your sound sets will do it great justice Kevin

Mephisto is now at the AWM so will be off to see her when the display opens 8-) 8-)

Cheers
Gra :)

6 x MG's and mantlets all moving off Stug elevation units, 3mg ea unit, put a tube down the guns so can run FO cable easily for the barrel flash, will have 2 different MG sounds. haven't worked out yet the flanged barrel end? also had to lower the mg holes as the tankograd plans are wrong have them in line with top of door but should be lower. did the top cannon strap and cover (think must hold bearing for the cannon) and underside front and back skirts.

installed the stug units for the cannon traverse and to move the mg's, 3 on ea unit also made up a pipe system to go round the corner to get to the end mg. set up a linkage system works well but time will tell. The stug units have 2 different size lugs on them a 10mm and 6mm so be careful which one you get if doing any mods like this or replacing one in your turret. The units have a plate on the back of them and i can remove them easily if needed. got out the heat gun to bend the pipes.
cheers

Hy All bit of an update,
going to use the Mato twin speakers, they sound pretty good just the same as the Jaycar speakers i use but the good thing about them is you have 2 speaker boxes so you can place them in different spots and hard small spaces, atm I'm using one set but think might get 2 sets in the tank. added some small mesh inside the grills so to cover up the big hole and speakers. have also decided to add sponsons (mudguards) inside the tank to to protect the insides from dust dirt etc... brought up by the tracks. They are the same level as the floor would have been, also replaced the holding screws with thumb type screws (used to connect the old style cables in the back of computers) to hold the Stug units in as its easier to do up with your fingers than a screw driver especially the one under the sponson, made 8 pin connector holders and a plate for the recharge plug and on/off switch can access in through the door. i will use 2 x 8 pin connector cables one for the main HL turret functions and another for all the other electrical/led connections so you can unplug 2 connection's instead of 5 plugs when taking the hulls apart.

cheers
Gra :)
