Is it possible to make a HL IR emitter and receiver into one which will work with a Tamiya system or more accurately an alternative system like elmod or DBC.

Just that here in UK the Tamiya apple is about 4-5 times the price of a HL one.

I know need to add hit indicators etc but is there anything else needed?

Hey Ian

The Heng Long and Tamiya apples are electronically the same. They consist of one 'active' component ONLY, the IR receiver. The Tamiya simply has some extra connections for the flashing LEDs.

Many people would also say the reflective material is better in the Tamiya BUT I'm only talking about the electronic components.

Currently in production is the newest proper release 'The Hammerhead' which I have shown prototypes of before. The indicator LEDs are mounted at the base of the board rather than in the Heng Long apple. Now I am using some very very bright LEDs and the are exceptional.

The boards will be here later this week (by the 10 August)

But in answer to your question, No nothing else is needed except connections for some LEDs

Not seeing any HL to TBU conversions I thought there was a technical issue. But since there isn't I might have a go at making myself one.
