OK here is the 'official' announcement of the new RC5HL board which replaces the old RC2HL unit. The old RC2HL was designed a few years ago now when 4 channel radios were the norm. Nowadays 6 and 8 channel radios are the norm. The old RC2HL has caused problems with the concept of having specific settings for CH3 & CH4 sent in order to turn on the unit. The RC5HL overcomes this by using CH5 as a dedicated ‘Switching’ channel. A simple signal of +100% on CH5 will toggle the unit ON/OFF. This brings the RC5HL in line with units such as EL Mod and the Taipan board. -100% CH5 will now switch S1 on the RC5HL – this can be used in conjunction with a relay to toggle on/off the headlight for example. (Again bringing the board in line with EL Mod & Taipan). - 50% CH5 now toggles SW2. If you radio can not be programmed to send -50% via a switch on CH5 then the RC5HL can be configured so that SW2 operates as an automatic reverse light.

The move to CH5 for switching will also allow the use of the new Octopus board which when combined with the Turnigy 9X system provides a function similar to the 'Model Matching' system featured on Spektrum radios. The Octopus system will allow you to turn on all of your tanks and only the tank you select on your radio will respond to the radio signals. To operate a different tank you simply select that tank on the radio and call it up. This will turn off the previous tank and start up the new one.
