@ crazykite

Now with Mike's mix this diagram is obsolete
rc5hl_servo.jpg

I'd suggest making two of these mixes
Ch7 - Elevation servo
Ch8 - Turret servo

The existing template setup means that firing of the guns doesn't affect Mike's mix. All in all a most excellent solution

Cheers

Do you use eepe (or eepskye for ersky9x) to edit your radio and model settings?
It is often quicker and easier. Also, should you use the FrSky (telemetry) version of er9x, it doesn't have templates, but you may still use the templates in eepe/eepskye.
I'm just adding a template to eepe/eepskye for this mix.
If you let me know what templates you use for tanks, I can easily add them to eepe/eepskye.
The latest released version of er9x supports user naming of the sticks and also, with appropriate hardware mods, support for converting some 2-position switches into 3-position switches and/or adding 1 or 2 push buttons.

There is also a voice board add on for the 9X. I recently improved the interface to this to use a serial connection. This allows you to back up models from the EEPROM to the SD card on the voice board and restore them, thus increasing the number of models you may store.
With the serial connection, you also get some extra inputs to allow more switch upgrades.

ersky9x also allows for switch upgrades.

I don't know if you make use of the trims for tanks. If you don't you can use them for extra inputs. In any mix that uses a stick as the source, don't include the trim, then set up a GVAR (Global VARiable) to use that trim as its source. Now use that GVAR as the source of a mix and you can use the trim to control that mix/channel. Maybe this is another way to control your gun elevation when using a standard servo as the trim operation is not self centering.

Mike.

I'm not sure why you need a 6-channel receiver. My first mix only uses 1 channel. If you need to use two channels to adjust the speed of servo movement, the second channel you use doesn't need to be sent to the receiver and may be any unused channel. It is just used in the transmitter to work out the speed of response. We usually refer to such a channel as a "virtual channel". Er9x supports 16 channels (ersky9x 24 channels), usually only the first few channels (up to 8) are actually sent to the receiver although if you use a FrSky XJT module then you can have all 16 channels sent.

For anyone else following this post and the development of the Asp Control Board:

I would like to use this example servo mix in the Asp template (with Mike's help)
It will be setup on CH8 as Asp uses all other 7 channels. The mix will be linked to gun elevation and hence for control of an elevation servo by default. Control of a recoil servo will be handled by Asp itself.

Hence for a standard 8 channel setup using a 9X radio there will exist support for two servos (recoil & elevation). Using an expanded 9X with the FRSKY XJT or Taranis radios support for up to 8 additional servos (10 in total) would be possible.

I think it is important to note that although this mix may look a bit daunting it provides an exceptional degree of control over the servo when compared to the onboard servo options found on ALL other tank control boards (Asp included)

Cheers
KG

@crazykite

That setup you have for the turret looks great. Did you make all the parts yourself or were some commercially available. If so where did you get them??

Cheers

Thanks Kevin, everything is recycled from other old projects or belong to original heng long rotation system ! If possible, I prefer to realize "zero-cost" projects ;)
For turret rotation : steel gear(s) come from a 1/8 offroad car differential replacement (nylon gears should be better), hitec servo comes from my old drift car. The Hitec servo is modded for continuos rotation, so no endpoint pin on internal gears and a couple of resistance instead of center point potentiometer (easy to do). White smaller gear is the one from HL rotation system.
For gun elevation : The elevation servo is enough little and powerful and comes from an old combat Corsair (RIP), the gyro is a little Futaba G190 used long time ago for my drift x-ray...
Probably, with mike's software mod, the gyro is not necessary, i will test next weekend.
That's all, plus minus hardware like screws, washers and bolts
:)

For those wanting to see this mix in action here is a little video

Stick movement on CH3 controls the servo mix on CH8. No need for any additional boards.

Cheers
