Well the last few months have seen quite a few new products out there.... Even better most of them are in a really good price bracket. However, what is not so good is the move away from accepted standards. Some units have a new IR system to deal with, some have an IR system that doesn't even work. Some have really unfunctional means of control and so on...

Luckily the RCtoHL and Turnigy 9X combo is out there providing unprecedented level of customization and control for it's price point. So to show just what you can do with the unit here are some videos

START UP and PROPORTIONAL TURRRET CONTROL

HEADLIGHT CONTROL

AUX LIGHT CONTROL

SOUND CONTROL

Not to mention by adding a MAKO you are able to battle with Tamiya, Heng Long and WSN tanks, chose light, medium or heavy weight class PLUS take advantage of the exciting other battle functions available with the MAKO such as the Bergepanzer repair function.

I take it you use the spare 5 and 6 channel on the 6ch turnigy to switch the lights?

I've used the ch5 to drive servo recoil on my m41 and I've been debating ch6 for lights.

Hmm having watched the videos closer now you have the 4 channels for tank driving, 1ch for front light, 1ch for rear light, 1ch for volume?

7 channels? Did you get the rc2hl working with 8ch rx now?

Also shave down those periscopes fish!

Got you stumped haven't I Zak....

The lights are actually on CH4 - On off triggerring occurs when the value get to maxium.

The 9X is simply the best radio for the price on the planet.

But it is not the lights that is the big deal it is the proportional control of turret rotation.

Heh ingenious.

So is the light switching done with a separate rc switch or is it something controlled through the rx18

Or how to do it plz

With the RC2HL and the Turnigy 9X, what hardware changes to the tank are required to do the LED light switching and the proportional control of the turret motor and can the same be done with the raising and lowering of the cannon.

Also can the HK-T6A V2 Transmitter do the same? if not, Do you have a an upgrade combo pack for the
Turnigy 9x like you have with the HK-T6A V2.

Post subject:  Re: Why the RCtoHL Adapter Kicks Ass!

HI Andrew

The LED switching I'll come back to but first... The proportional control of the turret is achieved by taking the PCB out of a cheap servo, adding 2 x 2k2 resistors in place of the 5k pot and then connecting the motor outputs to the turret rotation motor. This board is then connected to CH5. The radio then has to be mixed such that it sends out channel 5 with the left stick (CH4). Such mixing can only be done using the Turnigy 9X with either ER9X or tankER9X firmware installed. It can not be done using the HK T6A Radio.

You could do the same for the gun elevation using this little item from HK

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... r_LED.html

You can use this for the gun elevation as it does NOT reverse you can not use this for the turret rotation. In this case you would connect this to CH6 and set up a mix such that CH6 is output from the Left stick as well (this will be a little more complex than a simple mix though). The way the program is written on the RC2HL means that you can not move the gun up with the stick up and down with the stick down. Gun elevation operates as per the RX18.

As for the LED switching there is now a 'Special Edition' of the RC2HL board that has two FET controlled switches. Switch A is turned on by moving the turret rotation fully left and switch B by the turret fully right. This operates as part of the RC2HL so it can be activated using the HK T6A or any other radio.

Alternatively you could use a servo on channel 6 to control turret elevation and link it to one of the pots on the 9x

Post subject:  Re: Why the RCtoHL Adapter Kicks Ass!

Hello Phyrephish,

I thought it might be something like that using a servo control board, but wasn't sure about how the led was done, are all the new RC2HL boards special edition or do you have to request for a special edition?

regards Andrew
