I’m thinking of making a static gun which fires and receives IR shots out of spare HL RX18 bits.
I’m going to use a spare Asiatam recoil unit and power it permanently so cycles through fire, recoil, return. This via the micro switch will activate the fire on the RX18 which will fire the IR signal at a set cycle interval.
Now only problem is I’m still using a HL receiver board and transmitter to turn the RX18 on. This isn’t too much of a problem when in my garden, but at tank meets it means it be clogging up one of the HL channels which be disruptive.
So is there a way of by passing the receiver to fool the RX18 to turn on and stay on?
Ian.

Hey Ian
When you turn the power on to the RX18 it is ON. It sits there and waits to be told what to do next. So if you want to turn it on simply apply power.
What you really want to do is tell it what to do next. To do that you need to send the Heng Long communication signal down one of the wires on the 3 pin port where you connect the receiver board. So you will need to program a microcontroller to send the required signals through to the RX18.
Sorry but I'm pretty sure that is the only way you can do what you want with the RX18. I know you can trigger the high tension flash without sending any signals but I pretty sure that's it. I'll triple check for you.
Cheers Kevin G

Cheers Kevin I thought there would be no easy way to trick the RX18 to come out of standby mode. But worth asking just in case.
Ian.

Hello Tankbear,
If you only want the RX18 to do the ignition cycle on / off and do nothing more, ie start the engine tank sound and turn off the engine tank sound, It should be fairly easy to programm a PIC to do that.
All that would be required would be an 8 pin PIC, a pushbutton for start / stop and a 3pin connector for the RX18.
regards Andrew

Wow great work guys. If you could produce that for $15 that be great as plenty of us have spare bits to put one together for little money.
Could you add a switch to the board which could automatically fire the gun every 30 seconds or randomly. That way it can be unmanned during a battle.
Cheers Ian.

Hi, that would be great to have a random firing, have you got the schmatic ect I would like to build this.
