Fantastic work! Sign me up for at least one of these babies! Can you say anything about the price?

@ ALL

At the very start of the year I promised the boys in the Moreton Bay R/C Tank Club that such a control unit could be made and sold for under $150. I have not changed this view. I do not want to put cheap, non ROHS parts on these boards. They will have quality components.

I'm going to try my best to update to you all how development of Taipan is going. There won't be too much work for the next 2 weeks with school hlidays and all. However, Taipan is well and truly on the road.

Cheers
Kevin G

Taipan Update 01

Ok it may not look like much but here is the motor control development module for the Taipan

Here we have the inputs from the receiver for CH1 and CH2 on the left and the outputs for the Right and Left motor speed controllers on the right. In the middle is the microcontroller which takes the CH1 and CH2 info, processes it and then passes the processed info onto the motor speed controllers.

The inputs from the receiver are 'buffered' before going into the microcontroller. Buffering the inputs will hopefully reduce any potential problems between the receiver and microcontroller (as can be the case with the RC2HL).

The trimpot adjusts how the two channels are mixed. Turning the trimpot fully one way will enable 'super spin' turning the pot fully in the opposite direction will disable super spin.

Yes ZAK this setup can be used with both brushed and brushless motors. In fact most Taipan development will take place using brushless motors.

Cheers - till next week
Kevin G

Size of board? It would be nice if were like a battery pack,
2" by 4 or 5".

@ Darryl

The intial concept for Taipan is a bit different to what most Heng Long tankers are familiar with. It will be somewhat like the new boards from EL Mod.

The Taipan board itself will be one size BUT the ultimate foootprint (or size take up) inside your tank will depend on what size speed controllers you choose.

Of course every effort is being made to make the boards as small as possible and prototype boards that may show up here will certainly be bigger than 'release' boards. I'm planning for a board size compatible with that of the RX18. But don't forget 2 x micro SD cards have to fit on the board.

Cheers
Kevin G

I have no HL. I have Tamiya and elmod, elmod is about 2" by 3"
but the driver is about 5 amp, nowhere near the 20 amp in the
ad. The sound is my problem, doesn't get louder with speed.
The guns should be one sound level when you are parked or running. Adjustable is fine. I have been working on a T55 for
over 2 years and it is hard to fit the stuff inside. Try to keep it a little under 2" wide. Elmod says 2", but things hang off the sides and it is about 2.125".
