ElMod Tamiya Recoil Connector
Both the Eco and Pro ElMod boards have a 3 pin connector for attaching Tamiya Recoil Units (Connector 10). In truth any recoil unit working on a similar principle can be used. I would think that most ElMods go into Heng Long tanks and thus some info on connection to Asiatam or Heng Long recoil units would be very useful.
Asiatam and modified Heng Long recoils work by providing a supply to the recoil motor which when it has fully extended the barrel trips a microswitch which cuts the supply leaving the barrel extended. When you fire the cannon a 'pulse' of power is sent to the motor bypassing the switch and 'tripping' the motor over so that the barrel is snapped back by a spring. The microswitch is closed returning power to the motor and re-extending the barrel.
Thus to control these recoils you need 3 wires a + supply, a - supply and a third 'fire' wire. This is exactly what is provided by the Recoil connector. In this case the 'fire' wire provides a brief connection to ground (-).

So to wire this connection up to an Asiatam Recoil Unit you need to connect the + pin to the + side of the recoil motor. The - pin is connected to one of the NC pins of the microswitch and a short piece of wire connects the other NC pin of the microswitch to the - side of the recoil motor. The - 'fire' pin is connected to the - side of the recoil motor. Simple.
Using the Tamiya Recoil connection to control your recoil device regardless of it's make will free up connector 7 allowing the use of the high tension flash units.
Cheers

The only question is that the Tamiya recoil connector is - (blue), + (Green), fire (white) in that order with + being the middle pin. So if you are correct about the pins on the ECO board then the Tamiya recoil unit will need to be rewired or the connector changed. Looking at the bottom of the ECO board it looks like the pin closest to the edge of the board is connected to the negative trace which would mean that the pin order should be, from edge of board, +,-,fire. With a Tamiya unit all that would happen is that the recoil mechanism would go backwards, I don't think that would be a problem. I don't know how the Asiatam would work.

Hi Nyleatherneck
Welcome to the forum. The post refers to Heng Long and Asiatam recoil units with respect to the polarities. The info provided by EL Mod is for connection of the Tamiya recoil system only. So if you are connecting a Tamiya recoil all of the info is there. However, El Mods typically go into Heng Long tanks which have either a Heng Long or Asiatam recoil unit fitted. There is no info on how to connect these recoil units.
But you are correct the + and - pins if swapped around will result in the recoil motor operting backwards. The important pin is the 'fire' pin.
Cheers Kevin G
