Your R/C tank can easily, quickly & cheaply gain turret lock functionality by combining a GEKO unit and the GA250 gyro. This video shows the setup in action. For FULL turret lock function a slip ring would be needed and your turret ring modified for 360° rotation. The GA250 will work with GEKO straight out of the box with no programming required.
Ideally you will also required a programmable radio with a spare channel. This spare channel is used to switch on/off the turret lock feature. Any gear switch would probably do. Neutral is off, +100% is on.
Setup is very very simple. Connect the black plug of the GA250 to CH3 of receiver connect the red plug the channel that switches the lock function on or off. Connect the remaining plug to GEKO Input 1. Find a spot inside the turret on the roof as close to the centre as possible and attach the GA250. That's all. Of course your slip ring install will be a bit harder. Bit once you have your slip ring in its a breeze.
Enjoy (I know I will)

Kevin, I definitely will want this when I order my ASP, too. Do you still have those GEKO boards, or can you program sirvoe to work with the GA250?

In theory the GA250 will work with any unit - remember these were PRE-ASP days when one would use a GEKO with the RC5HL and the RX18.
A GA250 would connect between the receiver and ANY control unit (GEKO, ASP, EL MOD, Clark, IBU,...). Hence any setup is between you and the GA250 maker.
Honestly though the turret motor doesn't spin fast enough for this to be very effective. It does work pretty good at slow speed.
Cheers KG
NOTE: A control channel for this is required and hence you would HAVE to to start using a system with more than 8 channels
