Post subject: | Asp - Sound Editing Quick Guide |
Want to edit the Asp sound set? Here is a vey quick guide: (I'll add screenshots shortly) Step 1. Download and install a sound file editor if you do not have one already. Most common and best of the freebies is Audacity http://audacityteam.org/download/ Step 2. Sound files/sets edits should all be done from you computer hard drive rather then on the microSD cards so create some folders and transfer all the card files to your computer (good too for backup). Create and edit folder for all of your own edits eg: Tank Sounds |_________>Tiger |_____________>ModuleA |_____________>ModuleB |_____________>MyEdits Step 3. Choose a file to edit. Each sound file has been named in a manner that will let you know what it is and where it should go. For this example lets add shell ejection noise to the gun sounds on the Tiger. Asp uses two sounds when firing the main cannon. Both are on Module B and named: 025_B_Tiger1_KWK1m 026_B_Tiger1_KWK2m I will only edit 025_B_Tiger1_KWK1m Step 4. Get your sounds. I'm going to use the existing 025_B_Tiger1_KWK1m sound and add/mix the shell ejection noise to it. So I'll need a shell ejection noise. Que the wonders of the internet..... Step 5. Start Audacity - Click File->Import->Audio and then select the 025_B_Tiger1_KWK1m file The plain cannon shot sounds like this: 025_B_Tiger1_KWK1m.mp3 Right Click green thingy -> Open Tab in new window is best Now repeat Click File->Import->Audio and then select your shell ejection noise. The two sound files will appear in the same window. Step 6. Under Analyse Help you will see 6 square icons, click on the 'Time Shift' tool which looks like a double arrowhead <-->. Then click on the shell ejection noise and drag it to where you wish it to occur after the cannon. You can adjust the volume of the ejection noise using the gain slider on the left. Once you are happy with the sound. Press Ctrl A to select both tracks and then click Tracks -> Mix and Render. 025_B_Tiger1_KWKeject.mp3 Right Click green thingy -> Open Tab in new window is best Step 7. You should now have a single Mono file. You should now save this file in your MyEdits folder. It is EXTREMELY important that you keep the naming convention. So I will name this file 025_B_Tiger1_KWKeject. To save you click: File -> Export (Save as WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM). NOTE: The sound modules on Asp can playback stereo files. However, the Juno board only has a Mono amplifier and thus Mono files are used by default. However, you are quite welcome to use stereo files and route the Sound module outputs to your own stereo mixer and amp. Step 8. Replace the 025_B_Tiger1_KWK1m file in the ModuleB folder with your edited 025_B_Tiger1_KWKeject. It is EXTREMELY important that there is only a single file starting with each number (in this case 025). Step 9. Place your ModuleB sdCard into your computer and delete ALL files. Big move yes hence I would suggest getting some extra 2GB microSD cards as they are only $4 online and using a new card for your edited soundsets. Step 10. Go back to the ModuleB folder on your computer. Click Name so that the files are sorted in ASCENDING order. Click on file 001 and then press Ctrl and A to select all Right Click on 001 and then choose 'Send to' your SD card Done. NOTE: Sometimes Windows will not get the transfer done in the correct order and sounds will play out of place. DO NOT PANIC nothing is broke. It happens to me ALL the time - damn Windows. If this happens clear your SD card and repeat Step 10. Cheers KG |
