Post subject:  A bit of track recoil?

Hi. I think I read somewhere in the forum that is possible to activate track recoil in the ASP, and it was deactivated by default because most people dislikes it.

So, am I right? is it possible to activate? Would be great to have just a little bit of track recoil like the stock tamiya electronics.

Hi Rad

Startup options are usually on CH7 there are at present 3 options:

Toggle between fast/slow machine gun rates start Asp with Machine Gun 1 activated (-100%).

Toggle track recoil start Asp with Machine Gun 2 activated (-50%).

To toggle the intro music activate the main cannon (+100%) after initialisation.

So to get the Tami style recoil turn on MG2 and then turn on your tank

Well, Im using the 6 post switch radio, and according to your post, Mg2 is -75 instead of the -50 you wrote.

"CH7
-100 Machine Gun 1
-85 Machine gun 1 & 2
-70 Machine gun 2
70 Main cannon AP round
85 IR request OR additional User sound trigger (sounds 103 & 104)
100 Main Cannon
"

Anyway, I got it but I dont know if my tanks are too heavy or my motors too old, that I can not get the recoil. I mean I can heard the motors get power for a milisecond or so, but it is not enough to have any recoil. It would be nice if when you update the firmware you give it a bit more power.

I tested it with the PIII and the Sherman of my videos, if it helps.

Hi Rad

A generic firmware update with an increase would then upset all those for whom the settings are just right. You are correct in pointing out there are going to be many many factors making the amount of movement different for each tank. Not only that there will be varying amounts of personal preference as to how much the recoil should be. it is easy for Tamiya or Heng Long to produce a factory setting for factory tanks. Not so easy in this case.

BUT

Because the ASp user base is small it is not a big deal for me to send you a few custom edited firmware version for you to try. If i get more people asking the same then I can get a better idea of the "average" values needed to take care of as many different types as possible. Also is I get lots of requests for this I can try and make the value user editable. Or at least have a list of things most people want to be able to change.

So for now here are two edits of the firmware for you to try. The original values even now surprise me as they start at half power. The two new edits start at 3/4 power (75) and at full power (100). I have also only edited the IR mode and only edited the values for a normal motor setup (NOT the DKLM box). If you need the edit for airsoft mode let me know.

Now I am pre-empting your next post. Yes I know you now need a programmer. I have ordered parts for two programmers one for you and one for Pete. I have one programmer built and will finish the next programmer by tomorrow. These I have to assemble and solder by hand it is very fine work - the finest work that I can do by hand.

Yep, when I went to bed I was thinking that it would be impossible to set a recoil for everybody. Tank weight, track tension, motor age, and most importan, reduction rate could be completelly different from one tank to other, so I think the best option would be a user configurable option, like the machine gun rates.

I dont think you will get too many requests about track recoil because most people just want 0 recoil, but would be great to have it.

About more configurable options, just a question: My Sherman has frontlights (2, 3mm warm white leds) and rearlights (2 SMD Red leds) (Well, in fact also has searchlight in turret, laser diode, etc) but lets stick with the head and readlights. I wired the 4 lights like the heng long ones but if I do it no one works, so I disconnected the rear ones and the headlights work as they are suposed to work, so thats ok. The question is how do I wire the rearlights? To the AIL-ELE mod you did one of your videos? I preffer if possible to have the 4 lights in the same port, but if not possible it would be great for example ito use the backwards light port in the ASP as a rear light (I mean, a light that togles on and off at your will, no when you drive backwards)So yeah, more user configurable options, lol.

About you making a programmer for Peregrine and me, THANKS! Im sure I will use it a lot. I really spend tons of hours playing with the tanks.

Wiring up multiple LEDs can be a pain. I have most success when the leds are wired in series rather than in parallel. Sometimes in parallel they may work sometimes not but in parallel it is best for each led to have its own resistor. I'll leave it to these pages to explain really well

You're doing a programmer for me Kevin ?? Well, thank you, I don't know what to say, I really appreciate it. Or is it different Pete you were mentioning? :)
Though I already bought the FTDI basic breaker from sparkfun, and my header pins and jst plugs are also on the way from HK. So does the programmer do the same thing that FTDI can do? Or does it allow different programming?

Wow! You don't cease to amaze me. Thank you!
With your amount of dedication, we're so lucky we have a specialist like you pushing the boundaries of rc tanking, and really caring about his customers at the same time.
Just wish you lived a little closer.. you'really not planning to move to NJ anytime soon, are you? It's a "garden state"... and no vicious crocs or kangaroos... lol ;)
