Post subject:  Which one should I get?

Hi everyone, I'm quite a noob with this stuff. On an online store I have found an option to get a 1/16th scale, metal upgraded Heng Long tiger 1 for $200. It comes with a metal gun barrel, metal sprockets , tracks and gearboxes . But there's also an option for a stock taigen 1/16th scale tiger. Aren't taigens already basically metal upgraded heng longs? But the taigen costs $ 300, so obviously something in it is better , but the taigen has no metal tracks. The taigen looks way better than the heng long, but since the hl is upgraded I'm not sure which one to get. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to RCTA a2000 the main difference between the two brands is the HL is all plastic and comes in BB only, has a plastic barrel and doesn't recoil or flash when shot, the suspension is the old HL type with springs though still a pretty good price withe the tracks. The Taigen is a late Tiger, has better detail, the IR version comes with a metal barrel, recoil and flash, has a metal lower hull (plastic with metal insert) and torsion bar suspension, easy to use unlocking system to get the hulls apart (HL has screws) most the upgrades are on the Taigen compared to the HL. The Taigen also comes in both IR and BB. I think the electronics are similar. All depends on what you want to do to the tank upgrade yourself, leave as is install better electronics etc etc... (Kevin on here can give a few ideas with his electronics) do research on the forums to see what you can do to the tanks.
Hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask more questions and tanking is great fun.
Where abouts you from??

Cheers

Some more thoughts, the metal gearbox that comes with the HL are standard ratio, and are usually an alloy metal, I like low ratio g/b as slow the tank down to a bit more realistic speed not sure what the Taigen has? I presume the same type?
Always email the vendor and ask questions as some times the pic might not be the same as what you get, if yor in Australia there are 2 very good vendors.

I will problem think up more as the day goes on

Thank you for your help, I'm just curious because the hl is metal upgraded, it has a metal gun barrel, tracks, sprockets and gearboxes

Yep as I said the HL is a good price with the upgrades but not sure on the metal barrel never seen one on a HL before (from a shop that is) but doesn't meen it's not. Do you have a link to some pics of it. Also some HL Tigers (early releases) have a short barrel (plastic barrel) in recoil mode so they could fit them in the box easier so make sure it's the later make with normal length barrel.

Damn, it looks like the taigens sold out now so I guess I'll be getting the hl, it has the normal barrel I checked. The hl has a full grey paint job, no camo. If I want to respray it do i need to remove the electrics or just tape over them?

Just tape over them, I don't spray inside the tank anyway

Like over the actual wires or just the vents and speakers?

I'm a bit confused are you pulling the tank apart to paint or paint as is, if you pull apart just put some cloth over the electrics etc, i doubt you will have that much paint flowing around.
