M8A1 Cargo Tractor Conversion Project
Project Aim: Turn this....
Into this...
The original idea for this conversion came from Kamaz who is always coming up with great ideas and innovations. The M8A1 Cargo Tractor would have to be the ULTIMATE conversion for the Heng Long Walker Bulldog. The M8 was based on the M41 chassis, but was extended and 1 extra road wheel added. Who’s up to a conversion of this magnitude?
Such an ultimate conversion could be more easily completed if several modellers worked on a specific part of the conversion (like how NASA work). It would also be cheaper since an extra road wheel is needed only one surplus tank could be cut up and shared to five participants.
If you are interested in taking part reply NOW!!! OK there is a chance the project may fizzle but if it doesn't just imagine showing up to your next tank club day with a M8A1 BEAST.
Cheers

You also need to give participants their extension of tracks, since tracks are a bit longer then that from tank. It would be perfect if you could cut five sections of lower hull in paraller lines, so one they cut their tanks, can just epoxy them all together. Tractor is a great idea, since I find M41 a bit ugly! Good luck with that!

Well looks like someone else had this idea before us: All the above images are from Isoman (Robert) over at the Heng Long Panzer Forum. Unfortunately not much detail on the build other than the pics above. The original post can be found here: http://www.heng-long-panzerforum.com/in ... 4d28294c17But as usual you will need to be a member of the HLPF to view and even then the links don't want to work all the time (hence the reposting of the pics here).

Shame about tracks... They should be more narrow. wett010-1.jpg This is the way to do them. This was done by some bloke from Germany (I think) while he was correcting M41 to be more life like. I know this is very boring thing to do (over 400 cuts are to be done in all), but this way M8A1 will be more correct.

Ok there is still life in this project. I just managed to get a Nitto M8-A1 kit on eBay for less than $25 AUD (minus postage). I don't know if I should shout Wooo Hooo or not as this conversion is going to be a LOT OF WORK.
Will start posting scaled up drawings once the kit arrives
Till then...

Well, you kow how it goes: more time you spend on project, more details it will get. That 25$ AU is really nice price. BTW, are tracks made of rubber?
