Welcome to the forum stuballs Where are you from ?? Good question, what tank to get, depends on how much you want to spend. Heng long are made in china and ready to run, starting price approx $150 - $200 Comes with either plastic tracks or the higher price one wth metal tracks and gearboxes. There are various models ranging from Panzer 3 to the king tiger and some allied tanks. Some come with IR battle system others only come with BB firing system (Which is illegal In Australia) usually these tanks will require a bit of maintenance There are heaps of upgrade parts available for these tanks again ranging from cheap to expensive Top end tanks are from Tamiyia which start from approx $700 and upwards depending which tank you want, these are not ready to run, need the put together as a kit Again heaps of upgrades depending on how much you want to spend. You will have to a bit of research first, couple of sites that sell tanks are (Oz sites) http://www.ozarmour.com/store/http://tankarmy.com/products/index.php/cPath/1_32RCTA on this forum sells upgrades and electronics Check out the forum and you will get a feel of what's availbe and what mods you can do to the tank Hope this helps Just ask if you need more info Cheers Gra

Tnx Gra I'm located in Brisbane Qld I'm leaning towards Tamiyia build prob Tiger-1 early version at this stage as I like to build things not just buy them tnx for the links I have been looking around for a while now just a bit uncertain on the electronic side of things on what to get
Stuballs
I might revise my leaning and first start with a Heng Long Tiger-1 There is a good upgrade which put the HL a better all round fit for me just got to wait for new stock 1 x 2.4Ghz HK-T6A V2 Transmitter 1 x 2.4Ghz HK-T6A V2 Receiver 1 x Bind Plug 1 x RC2HL Adapter 4 x Servo Patch Cables 1 x MAKO Battle Unit. 1 x 5 Way Cable for MAKO Connection 1 x Indicator LED any thoughts

tnx Gra for the link
I think over the past 2 week I have visited just about every tank related site however a Tamiyia purchase might be a little further down the track than first thought. I will most probably get a Heng long first with a few upgrades and see where that leads me. Ive done a lot of model rail roads before but being ex military its hard to get it out of your blood.

Hi Stuballs Don't worry even though HL are RTR, there is still plenty of work to do on them Especialy the Tiger 1, the tools are moulded on soyou can grind them of and add on the tools, the commanders hatch and pistol port needs turning to correct position, open the drivers vision port, open up front hatches, do my suspension mod (will post the mod soon). As the HL Tiger has the early type suspension. You can also add low ratio gearboxes to slow it down, metal tracks, the idler wheel might need a bearing, Don't let this put you off, it's easy and great fun Not sure if the tiger has the RX18 board or the older version have to ask the seller Also it is the BB version only (disconnected as illegal in Oz) , have to upgrade if you want IR to battle other tanks (then you willhave to buy another tank ) As for your list of electronics, wait to see what board is in the tiger then ask Phyrephish on this site what he would recommend, there is heaps to choose, and the Taipan board that is being released before Xmas? Also other boards like El Mod and SGS, a bit dearer but good stuff Hope this helps (or confuses you more ) Cheers Gra

Hi Guys I went to the hobby expo on Sunday and it was very exciting to see so many tanks. I asked a few members there some questions and they were all very helpful so thanks to all. So to cut a long story short as soon as I got home I ordered a Tiger-1 online, cant wait till it turns up.
PS I hope I win the Raffle too

Hi guys My Heng Long Tiger 1 has arrived today , pretty easy to get it going. Will get a few action shots in the back yard on the weekend, I wont be painting any cam & decals for a while, first I would like to get the new transmitter & a new IR system in before paint happens. Stu
