PIII forum 3.jpgPIII forum 3.jpgHi Everyone,
Another newbie here. I'm from Brisbane which looks like a handy place to live for the RC tank scene.
I got my first RC tank for Christmas, a Heng Long Tauch Panzer III. I've had some fun reworking it, changing from the TK01 board to the RX18, adding sound, Dragon, and RC2HL. I've also repainted it and if I work things out correctly a couple of pictures will be attached. As it is an amphibious tank my aim was to produce the look of a fairly new tank that has recently done a shallow water crossing. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out (it's also only my 2nd attempt at airbrushing a model).
For sentimental reasons my first tank will not be upgraded to IR. I have however been collecting some electronics in anticipation of setting up an IR battle capable tank. I hope I will be able to meet some of you Brisbane based tankers soon.
Best regards, David

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the welcome and the kind words. Unfortunately the 2nd Feb is out for me. I'm working that weekend and will probably not have an IR tank operational by then either.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for a meeting I can attend in the future though.
Best regards, David

Hi Guys, Thanks for the assistance with club days etc. I've taken the plunge and have a KV-1 on the way (already have a Mako and RC2HL waiting for it). An offer for a beginner to drive the spare - hmmm, that's something you wouldn't get too often with my other RC interest, aircraft. Hope you are safe and dry after the recent weather. Best regards, David

Hi Greg,
I was very fortunate in the recent weather. There was a bit of water intrusion under the house, backflow from pipes I think, and an old garden fence took some damage from the wind. Small issues compared to what many are going through.
If you maintain your gear correctly, get good training, and have a bit of natural talent, there doesn't have to be a lot of crying with RC aircraft. I've logged over 2300 flights now and only written off one aircraft. Depth perception caught me out when flying on private property and I ended up on the wrong side of a tree. There is a saying though - they're only ever on loan. That said, I do agree that tanks are less stressful if things go wrong mechanically!
I've also been on very good terms with my local hobby shop, Xtreme Hobby, and had the pleasure of building and testing a number of models for them. As a result I've been able to get my hands on quite a few newly released model aircraft and take them for a spin. The video here is one example:
I'm the guy holding the model while the gear is being cycled.
Best regards, David

Hi Greg,
You're right, the video was filmed at Tingalpa. Did you take part in the model expo last year? I was part of the one the year before but last year I was overseas at the time. I heard the tankers put on a bit of a show too.
I've heard on the grapevine there's a bit of crossover membership between TMAC and the tank clubs. I think I might know who one of them is. Not sure about the others.
Best regards, David

Hi Guys,
@Ken - Sure, I'll post some pics after I've painted it. I feel a bit like a kid waiting for Christmas at the moment while it's in "limbo" between Melbourne and Brisbane.
@Greg - The turbines are impressive, and expensive. I've seen some that cost their owners around $40K - I think it would definitely be crying time if that went in. I put one turbine powered model together, it was a big job and took a bit of thought on where to put all the wires, gas lines, air lines, fuel lines, batteries and other assorted electrical goodies. I'm in no rush to repeat the experience. Personally I think I'll stick with the poor mans version - electric ducted fan (EDF).
Best regards, David

Hi again Ken,
Some pics sooner than expected. Unfortunately by KV-1 didn't arrive in good condition. I've had some repair work to do and decided to post my fix in the build thread. From posts I've seen elsewhere I believe the place my KV-1 broke is not uncommon.
Best regards, David

Hi,
I just wanted to say thanks again for making Lisa and I welcome at the NBRCTC on Sunday. I had fun and look forward to the next time I am able to attend.
Best regards, David
