Hi Gents

New to RC Tanks in 16th scale. I Have the HL Leopard 2A6 and decided to go full speed with up grades, Radio, receiver, etc, etc. I switched the radio receiver to the Turnigy TGY 9X with the 9X8C receiver, and added the Clark TK22 LP. I even added the Smartipart's 9x Solderless Programmer Board Rev 2.4 and down loaded the Tanker9X and flashed the radio with the firmware. (Yeah I know... Dude Slow Down!!!) Well after finally getting everything and setting it up. I can't seem to get the radio/receiver to take the proper commands. When turning it on the tank is already running, but no engine sound, the turret sound is constantly going like it's traversing left or right but the turret is not moving, and the machine gun is not working.

What does work...?! (with minor issues) The main gun does work with Clark's recoil and elevation servo's, but it's programmed on the elevation knob on the radio which would be used to elevate the main gun. The throttle knob is set and moves the tank forward and reverse and with proper speed control. However, when you push the knob left the tank goes right and visa versa, and the turret will only traverse to the left. I've check the connection on the TK22 and its plugged in correctly. I keep checking the manual and the internet but its slow putting this together. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. although the radio is bind to the receiver and some functions do work, however, in the templates menu on the 9X it does not list the Turnigy 9X8C receiver is this normal or is there another firmware I need? Be gentle :bamboozeld: :?

Hi ADP

I can only help you with your RC5HL, I can offer no help or advice re: the Clark board.

What you have done is very common - you will have missed a few of the important steps on setting up your 9X

1. GO to RADIO Setup
Change channel order to RTEA
Change MODE to mode 3
Calibrate your radio

2. GO to you model setup
go to templates menu and clear all mixes
go to the RC5HL template and apply it.

Move to the receiver and RC5HL

Connect CH 1 of receiver to IN1 on RC5HL
VERY IMPORTANT
Connect CH 2 of receiver to IN3 on RC5HL
Connect CH 3 of receiver to IN2 on RC5HL
Connect CH 4 of receiver to IN4 on RC5HL
Connect CH 5 of receiver to IN5 on RC5HL

move receiver jumper to across the top 2 pins (position for Turnigy receiver)

To start up
Turn radio on - make sure that CH1 to CH5 are ALL AT NEUTRAL
3pos ID switch must be in MIDDLE position
Turn on tank -WAIT for green LED on RC5HL to go solid on
Push 3 Pos switch up and back to middle

All should be good

There are many many many videos of this setup on the RCTA youtube channel
www.youtube.com/rctanksau

NOTE the 9XR and 9X are identical radios

Your Clark problems will be solved by understanding your 9X a bit better and I think once you follow the RADIO setup procedure outline above things will be different.

Finally the templates are for various tank controller units. Only the Turnigy 8 Channel and Hobby King 6 and 3 channel receivers will bind to the stock 9X. There are no later versions of tankER9X beyond Anzio. All firmwares are good and are not the issue here.

Cheers
Kevin G

thanks for the response, at the risk of sounding stupid is the RC5HL required or does serve the same purpose as the TK22? The TK22 is the same set up as the RC5HL (Connect CH 2 of receiver to IN3 on RC5HL, Connect CH 3 of receiver to IN2 on RC5HL, ect). I was able to get the traverse for the turret corrected, however, its still continuously makes the traverse sound on its own, the tank is running when its turned on but no engine sound.

I flashed the radio with another Tanker9x firmware 11102 but started off with 120512 would this also play a part in it? I still do not see the TK22 in the Template set up would I need to re bind the receiver, if so...how?

HI Andrew

Sorry but I can not help you with Clark product, I do not own any and have not used any. Clark offer cheap competing product to those that I offer. If you choose CLark product then you have to take into account their level of service. You will need to contact your CLark supplier.

There will never be any Clark templates in tankER9X. There is one template spot left and that will go to the IBU2 if it ever arrives :)

There is no connection between the RC5HL and Clark the two are completely separate. The RC5HL is an adapter which converts the PWM info sent from a receiver into a digital datastream that is understood by the Heng Long RX18. It can only be used with the Heng Long RX-18

The latest version of tankER9X (Anzio) is on the forum here

viewtopic.php?f=154&t=823

There are very little difference in versions of tanker9X - typically menu changes. The basics of the actual firmware is pretty constant. So different versions will make no difference whatsoever. What is EXTREMELY important to note is that tankER9X in a very minor mod of the standard ER9X firmware which is now standard on the Turnigy 9XR. The only differences are with the Templates, lack of Helicopter Menus and tank friendly terms for RUD THR AIL and ELE.

Reflashing your radio will change the eeprom settings - each time you reflash you will have to go back to RADIO Setup and make ALL of the changes above INCLUDING re calibration of your radio.

Cheers
Kevin G

Thanks a bunch... you have been more then helpful with the information you have advised on. I plan on getting other modern tanks from HL and will go with the RCH5L to upgrade them instead of the TK22...thanks again
