Hello again
total noob on this forum and to rc tanks too
Tamiya fan boy and RC off road trucks (1/10, 1/8) keep me busy

well I came across the rc tanks and.... with recent developments they look like a lot of fun, and people on this forum know how to enjoy them

I'd really appreciate some advice or pointers to other threads, blogs, what not, to get me headed in the direction I want to go

I like the 1/35 and 1/16 rc tanks. I really like the bb gun and smoke stuff. I like quality and reliability at a price and am prepared to swap out, fab up, make it myself if I can get it to go better, further, faster etc

So.... for starters I'm not into the battling thing (right now) more just trundling around offroad, I could pick up a Tamiya sherman kit for a reasonable price and would love to control it with the tiny Tamiya 1/35 tx if that would work, but I see lots of people go for the turnigy 9x set up,

if I could get some big pointers as to what or why one tank or one brand or one kind of tx is a generally better option then I could get started and try to pick up some stuff

I would run the tank off of a lipo, it seems 7.2v is the simplest starting option
sorry for the long post :)

If you like the Tamys get the sherman, it doesn't have recoil and isn't a BB unit also no smoke machine. Can't answer the TX question but I wouldn't think so, you would have to get a new TX (the Turnigy are a great TX)
Best to check out the forums and do some research on what is available etc and what you then will want, there are all types tanks out there, RTR, cheap, expensive, metal/plastic, heaps of upgrades etc etc... It's a bit hard to say what tank is best to buy so do your research.

Cheers
Gra :)

Gra
thanks for the feedback
I don't have the tamiya 1/35 so i dont know what kind of rx it uses but i guess youre right it wouldnt be much cop
without too much trouble I could pick up an old tamiya kit new or used
can you just use a standard rx and plug and play or do you have to buy new boards
i dont want to be using the old radios only the newer 2.4

I cant believe that Tamiya doesnt get up to date with their kits

I can't believe the majority of the tank world doesn't realise that Tamiya are hopelessly out of date with their 1/16th tank electronics either.
