Hi all,

Just found this board via Hobby Havoc.

Just ordered an RC Armory 1/8th Tiger 1 Late Model - should get it around September.

Will post a build log here for people's interest over the next few months.

I have copied some of the content from the Hobby Havoc web site build thread to here - just condenses everything a wee bit.

On July 29: Just order the following from Model Solutions of Canada:
1 x SFX6.4 Ultra High Performance Sound Module
4 x Optional Switched Outputs for SFX6.4 Sound Module
2 x Snubber Diodes - 50V - 1A
4 x Male-Male servo cables - 300mm (12in) long
1 x Mini-B USB cable, 1 meter long
1 x 4inch 20 Watt loudspeaker - 4 Ohm (will be using 12V for SFX board, so 4Ohm is sufficient)

I am going to bench build and test all the above as a mini project (will pass the time waiting for my tank to arrive)

I am using the Optional Switched Outputs to achieve the following:
A: 1 output to control an LED simulating the flash of the hull machine gun
B: 2 outputs to control an LED simulating the flash of the turret main weapon and simultaneously control a servo for recoil
C: 1 output to control something else, maybe the headlight - still thinking on this one

I will check out Jaycar for some LED's which will be suitable.

Will paint the ends flat black tomorrow, then clear lacquer the wood.

Bit more work done this morning

Drilled out the end of the turret MG and gave it a general clean up with the dremel to remove the obvious casting marks.

Also masked the cleaning roads and painted the ends.

Will hit them up with a bit of flat clear when paint is dry, then lacquer the wooden dowels.

Finished cleaning rods

Finished the cleaning rods today.
Next job is to build a jack plate and try my hand at a crank handle.

I have ordered a Spade, Axe & Sledge Hammer from Mark (Mark1 Tanks). Mark said they were a "small" 1/6th size, so will see how I go reducing them down a bit.

Once I have made or modified the accessories, they will be weathered at the same time as the tank.

At the moment everything will have that nice new factory look and smell

Quick trip to Bunnings this morning.

Bought a length of 12mm square wood beading and some brass nails.

Cut up the 8 x 48mm lengths (making a second jack base for P4Man

Need to buy a strip of brass (about 8mm in width) to wrap around each end of the wood, brass nail it in place, then dremel the ends to square them up.

Also picked up some 6mm D Shackles.

Can anyone provide accurate dimensions of the crank handle for the Tiger 1.

If it was the same as the King Tiger Crank Handle, I could mic my Tamiya 1/16 for dimensions - unfortunately it is a totally different design. Any help would be greatly appreciated

A bit more jack plate work

1. Beat the wood with a ball payne hammer
2. Glued together with CA and clamped in vice for 2 hours
3. Took to the wood with a dremmel

Still have to fix the brass strips (and weather them), then paint and stain.

Forgot to mention, got my Bovington Tiger book from Amazon UK late last week.

Fantastic book

Will lend it to you P4Man when I'm finished

I'm kinda enjoying doing this
